From April 8-17, the 32nd Thrangu Mani Puja was held at Shree Mangal Dvip Boarding School. Attended by nuns and monks of the monastery as well as the local lay devotees, the 10 day accumulation of Mani Recitation offers free meals and health-care services to all who attend. Student volunteers, Thrangu Lhaksam Nepal, medical monks and nuns all contributed to the smooth running of the program along with the Compassion Action group from Hong Kong.

Staff Members Who were Sponsored Now Paying It Forward

Our beloved Founder, Thrangu Rinpoche encouraged SMDers to "go into the fields of education and healthcare." Several of SMD staff members mentioned below completed their undergraduate degree in Social Work, which provides strong foundations for working with people. These Staff members are all graduates from SMD School, who are now paying it forward.

First row (from left to right): Sonam Dolma is a Nursery Class Teacher and Junior Sections Department Head. Lhakpa Tsewang is Senior Hostel Head. Nelha Sangmo supervises the SMD Clinic, coordinates visits for Global Dental Relief, and serves as Girls' Hostel Head.

Second row (from left to right): Tsering Dhondup is the High School Coordinator (Grades 11 and 12), who is currently hoping to pursue a Master's Degree in Social Work. Tsering Gyaltsen serves as Junior Hostel Head. Tsewang Dorje is SMD's "AV wallah," filmmaker, graphic artist, and archive keeper. He is currently working toward a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW).

Sorry! Our children don’t have much access to the internet - we have hundreds of children. Our computer lab is the only access they have to the internet and connections are extremely slow.

We instruct our children not to ask sponsors for anything. If your child asks you for anything, please write Shirley immediately: himalayanchildren@gmail.com
