V.V. Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche's Celebrates His 85th Birthday

On the 28th, V.V. Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche celebrated his 85th birthday at Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery in Namo Buddha. Rinpoche’s birthday falls on the 10th day of the 10th month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, which is the auspicious day of Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism.

On the day of the birthday there were more than 1000 people in attendance! The main shrine room at Namo Buddha was overflowing. People from all the various monasteries, abbeys, schools and Dharma centers in Nepal and around the world attended, including a number of monks from the Thrangu monastery in Tibet. Several honoured guests also attended the birthday festivities, including: Zuri Tulku Rinpoche; the President of the Nepal Buddhist Federation; the Central Tibetan Administration representative; and the Mayor of Namo Buddha.

Zuri Tulku Rinpoche bestowed the long life ceremony, and aspirations were made for the flourishing of the long life and dharma activity of HH Karmapa and Thrangu Rinpoche. Joy was in the air and a strong sense of family and happiness still pervades.

Thrangu Rinpoche graciously thanked everyone for coming to see him, and for all of the wonderful activities that were done in his name. Rinpoche’s touching speech was then followed by a cake cutting ceremony and a wonderful cultural show.
