Long Life Empowerment and Lama Dancing

December 13, 2017

Thrangu Tsedrup Puja and Long Life Empowerment was held at Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery in Namo Buddha from November 4th to 10th. This particular long life puja and lama dance is a tradition originating from Thrangu monastery in Tibet.

During the time of the 14th Karmapa, Thekchok Dorje, the Terton Chokgyur Lingpa came to Thrangu monastery to restore it after an earthquake. At the time, he foretold that it would be necessary to do this ceremony annually, and instructed the monastery on how to conduct the lama dance (cham). Performing the lama dance not only helps the teachings of Buddhism to flourish, but it carries great blessings. Chokgyur Lingpa made the profound prediction that all obstacles and difficult circumstances will be averted for the year for anyone who sees and participates in this lama dance.

For the past several years Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery has conducted the puja and lama dance in order to preserve and uphold this important tradition and to pray for peace in the world.
