New monks spend their first year study and training in Sarnath, India at Vajra Vidya Institute. The new 2026-27 batch recently travelled from Nepal by bus with their teachers, stopping for meals along the way.



Final Exams at VVI

At the end of March, new monks as well as the older shedra monks wrote their final exams. Exams for the first and second year monks include reading, writing, speaking and the etiquette of wearing robes, prostration, prayers and recitation.


On March 18, shedra monks were tested on memorization and then had 7 days for self study before the Sutra exam on March 26, followed by a day each of grammar testing, writing debate and speaking debate.


March 30 was a holiday and results day on April 1st which included the introduction of new staff since 3 VVI staff members have just entered the 4 year retreat in Nepal.
